For some children and young people, returning to school after time away can feel like a big step. Whether they have been accessing Alternative Provision, receiving mentoring support, or struggling with confidence and engagement, reintegration needs to be carefully planned.

At OSMIS, we believe reintegration works best when it happens at the right pace for the young person. A rushed return can sometimes increase anxiety, reduce confidence and make it harder for progress to continue. A planned, supported approach gives the young person, school and family a clearer pathway forward.
Successful reintegration is not just about getting a pupil back into a classroom. It is about helping them feel safe, understood and ready to take part in learning again. This may involve building routines, developing emotional literacy, improving communication, strengthening relationships and helping the young person understand what support is available to them.
Every young person’s journey is different. Some may return to their mainstream setting, while others may move into specialist provision or another suitable education pathway. The most important thing is that the next step is based on the young person’s needs, progress and readiness.
OSMIS works closely with schools, families and referring partners to review progress and support positive outcomes. By keeping communication open and placing the young person at the centre of the plan, reintegration can become a meaningful step forward rather than a pressure point.
With the right support, the right environment and the right timing, young people can begin to rebuild confidence and move towards a more positive future.
