Alternative Provision is designed to support children and young people who may need a different approach to education, learning and personal development.

For some pupils, mainstream school can feel difficult or overwhelming. This may be because of anxiety, social, emotional and mental health needs, SEND, ADHD, low confidence, reduced engagement, behaviour challenges or difficulties with emotional regulation.

Alternative Provision gives young people access to a more personalised environment where they can build trust, feel supported and begin to make positive progress. It is not about giving up on education. It is about finding the right way to help a young person reconnect with learning, relationships and future opportunities.

At OSMIS, our Alternative Provision is built around each young person’s needs, interests and goals. Through mentoring, structured activities and close communication with schools and care partners, we help pupils develop emotional literacy, communication skills, resilience and confidence.

For some young people, Alternative Provision may support a return to mainstream school. For others, it may help with transition into specialist provision, post-16 opportunities or the most suitable long-term pathway.

Every young person’s journey is different. The aim is always to provide the right support, in the right environment, at the right time.
